Pikachu came to us on the same day that Michaela
passed away. I was feeling sad about our little Michaela,
and decided to get another female hamster. At the time, I still had two males,
Columbus and Furby. Columbus,
Michaela's sister, died two months later in early November. At that time, I thought
it would be a good idea to mate Furby with Pikachu, and
then keep one of their babies. Their successful litter of 13 is documented in
my Hamster Journal.
Pikachu was an amazing mother. I can't even imagine feeding and
keeping track of 13 children at once. She took motherhood very seriously and the
success of her litter was her greatest accomplishment.
Pikachu was a very good sport about being photographed, as you
can see from the photos above, especially the last one, Pikachu's
Comic Strip.
Pikachu lived for 1 year and 9 months and left us on April 25,
2001, only a few weeks after her beloved, Furby.
