When we got Patches from Heatherdale
Cavies, a local breeder, I fell in love with another type of coated pig,
a silver agouti. I really wanted one of those two, so I kept in touch with the
breeder, Linda, who had one available in early March.
Pebbles came to us on March 2, with a birth date of January 29 and her very own
pedigree.
As happened last time, the newly second youngest pig had to really
work hard to establish her dominance, or at least she thought so. This time,
that pig was Patches, who chased the new baby all over the cage the first day.
But Pebbles took it all in stride and actually seemed to enjoy all the running
around. Even when no one was chasing her, she would race all over the cage.
She probably couldn't believe how much space she had to run around in!
Just like last time, the oldest pig, Pippi, was wonderful to
the new baby, sharing her food and "defending" her at times. Pepper, who had
been quite the chaser of Patches a couple months ago, was much more accepting
of this new baby, having been through this "trauma" once before. However, Pepper gets pretty aggressive when food is involved. Nonetheless, with food in great
abundance and with much patience, Pebbles manages to eat plenty. She especially
seems to enjoy apples and carrots.
