Scruffles arrived in December of 2000 at an estimated age of four
months. She was impossible to resist in the pet store, because she was so unique.
I later learned that she is a rex or teddy bear guinea pig, which means her fur
would get quite fluffy. She has long soft fur and is very cuddly to hold.
Scruffles enjoyed her first 4-6 weeks as an only "child,"
but when Piggles arrived in January, Scruffles was
overjoyed with her new friend and sister.
One of Scruffles favorite activities is snuggling up inside a
fleece blanket on a lap. This is especially great on cold winter days, when both
parties warm up nicely together. Scruffles likes to burrow deep into the blanket
"cave" and then lounge on her side, with her eyes almost closing all
the way sometimes. A more relaxed pig could not be found.
Scruffles loves to run around the floor or her new huge pig cage.
She dashes in and out of boxes (with door holes) running lap after lap. She's
a wonderful exerciser. She likes to end her laps with a dash up the ramp. To see

R.I.P. 8/27/04 - Scruffles passed away overnight last night.
We knew she'd be the first, because we literally spent hundreds of dollars
at the vet on her. Something was wrong internally, that we just couldn't quite
get
a handle on. I am not ashamed to admit that she was always our favorite.
Her fluffy, long fur was beautiful and her personality couldn't have been nicer.
No one snuggles in a blanket like Scruffles! We will miss her greatly!
